Manchester Marathon 2024

Sunday saw a good number of QRC runners at Manchester Marathon and some amazing support from the sidelines too from other members!

All the months of training have paid off as there were several PB’s but sadly injuries too.

Sadly Judith had to withdraw at just over 7 miles with a flare up of her minor calf tear, avoiding further injury and allowing her to continue her training towards Edinburgh.

Well done to all and thanks to the members that went to just cheer our runner on!

Well done Taz on Sunday’s Marathon – read below on his experience and the difficulties training during Ramadan.

After having done the GNR last year and brass monkey half in January i thought I’d bite the bullet and enter my first marathon albiet a very hesitant last minute entry! I left myself 16weeks to train 4 weeks of which fell inside Ramadan which i found extremely challenging as i could not eat or drink whilst training. Fast forward to race day I had the usual race day jitters but i felt good on the start line as i had no niggling injuries to contend with. I was advised by my lovely fellow Queensbury club runners to try not to put any undue pressure on myself and just enjoy my debut marathon. Nevertheless the competitive spirit inside me wanted to post a time of 4:15 which i thought would be a respectable time for a debut marathon. Everything was going really well until i hit a few hills on mile16. Whoever said that this was a flat course was obviously lying! Nevertheless i was still on course to hit my goal time until i hit mile21. At this point the wheels had completely come off and my brain was no longer sending signals to my legs. When they say the marathon race starts at mile 20, boy they are not wrong! The last 6miles of the race was probably one of the toughest things i have ever done but i soldiered on and there was a sense of relief and euphoria when i crossed the finish line. One of the best feelings anyone can feel with a tremendous sense of achievement. I ended up running 10mins slower than my goal time but I’m not going to be hard on myself. Such a massive learning curve on the first one and i will definitely sign up for another one with the hope of getting a sub4
