Ding ding ding ring that marathon PB bell! Gary took on the Brighton Marathon at the weekend and ran an outstanding time of 2:59:04, here’s a few words from him.
“After missing out on a place in the London Marathon ballot (again) I decided to opt for a trip to Brighton as it’s somewhere me and Amy used to go when we were younger and cooler , also thought we could make a weekend of it.
Training had gone well and I was excited and ready to go.
Weeks of praying to the weather gods paid off, as we had beautiful sunshine all weekend and hardly any wind on race day.
We’d planned for Amy and Abraham to be at certain points on the route where I’d see them, which helped me stay focused, and knowing I’d see them at the finish really helped me dig deep when it got TOUGH!!
I managed to get out of the crowds early on and settle into my own pace, feeling relatively good for most of the race, I say most of the race because as I approached 22 mile the heat was really getting to me and my legs were starting to feel like concrete!!
I slowed it down and just ground out the last few miles crossing the finishing line in 2:59:04 and absolutely delighted to break that 3 hour barrier!
Race run it was time for fish and chips and few beers on the beach, perfect!!”
