We had 3 members, Joe, Gary and David, challenging themselves and taking on the 69th running of the Yorkshire 3 Peaks, dubbed the ‘Marathon with Mountains’. Although not quite the marathon distance, but at 24.2 mile with 5,236 ft of ascent up Pen-Y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough, who are we to argue over 2 mile?!
An icon in British fell running which in 2008 became the first race in the UK to host the World Mountain Running Championship.
It was an absolutely glorious day for it yesterday, with sunshine and very little wind or rain for the most part.
It was Joe and David’s first attempt at the Peaks, with Gary going back for his second running.
Joe was first home for QRC in a very impressive 4:01:03, next came Gary in 4:06:57, knocking 4 minutes off his 2019 time. Both were a bit disappointed not to break sub 4 hours having run most of it together and feeling strong all the way, before Gary dropped off the pace with cramp coming off Ingleborough. Unfortunately for David he missed the cut off time at Hill Inn, just after the descent off Whernside. He wasn’t too disappointed as he still got a good 18 miles in and said it was a learning curve and needs more training for next year .
An amazing effort from all 3 of them
