TRAINING GROUPS

We have many qualified Run Leaders who will plan and lead our weekly sessions. Each Run Leader will have a different route, a different capability, and a different strategy to get the best out of your running.

In the summer months, some of the groups take advantage of the lighter evenings to run off-road. Trail or fell shoes are recommended for this especially if it’s wet.

Andrew Dovernor (LiRF)
This groups runs at around 7 min/mile. The runs are usually between 8+ miles, with limited stops.
G8
Road

Matt Dodds (CiRF)
If you’re running at a pace quicker than 8.5 min/mile, then this is the group for you. We run a challenging route, no hill is too steep to run up. We mainly do on road, but occasionally test ourselves off road to mix it up. The runs are usually between 6.5 and 8 miles.
G9
Road

Phillip Whettlock (EGCE)

Julie Hepworth (LiRF)
G9 runs are usually 6 to 6.5 miles, around 9 min miles. Some weeks, we enjoy challenging ourselves with our local hills for a rewarding view (it’s true, hills do make you stronger!). Phillip sometimes mixes it up a bit, with some speed or hill work – runners from other groups welcome to join in.
G10
Road

Phil Lickley (LiRF)

David Bean (LiRF)
A typical G10 outing would be a steady 5-6 mile run, at around 10 mins/mile pace, taking in the ups and downs of the local area – with the odd view stop!
G11
Trail

Vikki Bean (LiRF)
G11 off road generally runs around 6 miles, between March and October and then to road during the winter months. If you enjoy mud and trails then this is the group for you.
G11
Road

Steve Brook (LiRF)
G11 runs are usually 5 to 6 miles, all on road, around 11 min miles. Usually led by the experienced, and long-standing club member, Steve Brook.
G12
Road

Martin Firth (LiRF)
Taken by Martin Firth, an experienced run leader, covering 3.75 to 4 miles, on the roads, at a pace of 12 minutes per mile. We try to introduce some variety and even fun into our routes and are ideal for anyone who wishes to progress from the G13 group and also for those with ambitions for G11, and for runners who are quite happy to stay with in G12!
G13
Road

Lynn Hill (LiRF)

Robin Naylor (LiRF, LiRF FMR)
G13, runs around 3 miles, or slightly more/less depending on route and weather at around 13 minute mile pace. A great introduction to running with plenty of tips on how to get the best out of your run!
GF Fitness
Karol Whettlock (LiRF)

Would you like to try running but are worried you won’t be able to keep up? Are you getting back to your running after an injury or a long gap? Karol (and other members of our run leading team) will use movement activities to build up your abilities and confidence until you feel able to join one of our regular running groups.
