Some more racing news from last weekend (15/7)
Matt Thornton and Carl Heron tackled the Denholme Doddle. With 3 different distances, 17, 21 or 27 mile and nearly 5000ft of climbing, it’s anything but a Doddle!!
With Half of the route on open moorland it has outstanding views along the way, it passes Top Withins (Wuthering Heights) and the Brontë waterfalls as well as other beauty spots in Bronte Country.
They spent most of the race running together until Matt started cramping up around 19 miles, and then Carl opted to take the 21 mile route as he took a fall and bashed his side. He still managed to come first over that distance
Matt, like the trooper he his, battled on over the full 27 mile route to a 3rd place finish, even after a few wrong turns added an extra mile on. What’s a mile when you’ve just run 27 though eh!
Outstanding running the pair of you
Thanks to Dave Woodhead as always
