Saturday saw Lee, Zoe, Ian and Michelle take on the picturesque Burnsall Trail Half Marathon – Read Lee’s write up below:
The race started off with a short run along the riverside before gradually climbing uphill through tracks and fields for a few miles. At the top, we were treated to a picturesque downhill section which eventually brought us back riverside heading into Appletreewick. After a surprise meeting from our cheerleaders at Mason’s campsite,
the fun was short lived as we were then hit with a near vertical cobbled lane – at roughly the half way mark it was a killer.
At the top though, the scenery was stunning and we then ran through field after field. The stone steps and wooden ladders on the stiles became harder to navigate as the miles ticked over and legs began to feel exhausted. There was plenty of added mud too just to make us feel at home.
Then we climbed a final nasty grassy hill before we dropped back down riverside for a fast last mile and half back into Burnsall.
The sun came out too which made it a beautiful day for enjoying the views of the Yorkshire dales.
At the finish, we were presented with a pork pie or Cornish pasty and a can of Elderflower & Gooseberry Pale Ale.
Me and Zoe had a quick dip in the river for a bit of cold water therapy on our tired muscles before joining Michelle and Ian, and support crew Vikki and James in the pub.
